Saudia is the Saudi flag-carrier and a SkyTeam member, with a deep India network and increasing relevance as Saudi Arabia opens up to tourism. Here is the honest 2026 picture for Indian flyers.
Quick answer
Saudia operates a deep India network in 2026 — daily or near-daily service from BOM, DEL, BLR, MAA, HYD, COK, CCJ, TRV, LKO, AMD and several smaller Indian cities to Jeddah JED and Riyadh RUH, with onward connections across Saudi Arabia, the Middle East and select long-haul. Alfursan is the loyalty currency and a SkyTeam partner — useful for Indian flyers building SkyTeam status. The carrier is particularly important for Indian Muslims making the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage. JED and RUH lounges are competent for Alfursan Gold and Platinum and for business class.
The Saudia India network and the Hajj/Umrah factor
SV (Saudia's IATA code) has one of the deepest Indian networks of any Middle East carrier, driven both by the trade and business links and crucially by the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage traffic. Saudia's India network includes routes that other Middle East carriers do not operate at all — secondary Indian cities like Calicut, Mangalore, Lucknow and others get direct Saudia service primarily because of the religious-travel demand.
For Indian flyers making the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimage, Saudia is the primary carrier with deep operational experience. The airline operates special Hajj seasonal capacity and has dedicated Umrah service patterns through the year.
For general business and tourism travellers, Saudia's role in India is increasingly relevant as Saudi Arabia opens up tourism (the eVisa scheme for Indians, the rapidly developing tourism infrastructure in Riyadh, AlUla and the Red Sea coast).
Fleet and cabin product
Saudia operates A320, A321 narrow-body on regional Gulf routes, and 777-300ER and A330 wide-body on long-haul including most major India routes. The 787-9 fleet is being progressively expanded.
Business class on the 777-300ER is 1-2-1 reverse-herringbone fully flat (post-refresh) with direct aisle access. On the A330 business class is 2-2-2 angle-lie-flat — older product, less competitive. On A321neo business class is a recliner. The cabin product on Saudia's modern aircraft is competent but not in the top tier — Qatar Qsuite and Emirates A380 are clearly superior on hardware.
Alcohol is not served onboard Saudia per Saudi religious policy — this is the practical difference for travellers used to alcohol service on Gulf alternatives.
Alfursan and SkyTeam earning
Alfursan is the Saudia loyalty programme. Earning on Saudia metal is fare-class based. Economy fares earn 25 to 100 percent of distance flown depending on bucket. Premium Economy earns 110 to 150 percent. Business earns 150 to 200 percent. First (on routes where it operates) earns 250 to 300 percent.
For Indian flyers building SkyTeam status, Alfursan is one option alongside Flying Blue (Air France-KLM), Korean Air SkyPass and others. SkyTeam partner crediting works — Saudia flights credit Flying Blue at the published partner rate, which is often the more flexible currency for redemption on European long-haul.
Alfursan tiers are Silver, Gold and Platinum. Gold is SkyTeam Elite Plus equivalent and unlocks alliance-wide lounge access.
JED and RUH lounges
JED (Jeddah King Abdulaziz International) and RUH (Riyadh King Khalid International) both have Saudia-operated AlFursan Lounges as the home lounge product. The lounges are competent — buffet dining with Saudi cuisine options, prayer rooms, work zones and showers. The first class lounges at JED and RUH are more exclusive with a la carte dining.
For SkyTeam Elite Plus from India transiting JED or RUH, the AlFursan lounge access is reliable. Pay-per-use lounges at both airports are accessible via DreamFolks and Priority Pass for economy passengers.
JED is the larger hub and serves the religious-pilgrimage flow. RUH is the newer hub with the future-focused infrastructure (the new King Salman International Airport in Riyadh is under expansion through the decade).
Onward connections from JED and RUH
Saudia's onward network from JED and RUH includes Europe (London, Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, Manchester), North America (New York JFK, Newark, Washington Dulles, Toronto), select Asia (Beijing, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta) and dense Middle East and African coverage.
For Indian flyers heading to Europe, Saudia via JED is competitive with the better-known Gulf options (Emirates via DXB, Qatar via DOH) on total journey time. The honest difference is the cabin product (Saudia's is good but not the best) and the no-alcohol policy. For value-focused Indian flyers, Saudia's economy fares are often meaningfully cheaper than the premium Gulf alternatives on the same route.
For India-North America, Saudia via JED is workable but typically less efficient than the shorter great-circle routings via DXB, DOH or via European hubs.
When to book Saudia from India
Book Saudia when: (a) you are making the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimage and want the carrier with the deepest operational experience, (b) you are heading to Europe and the Saudia fare is meaningfully cheaper than Emirates or Qatar on the same route, (c) you are visiting Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, Jeddah, AlUla, the Red Sea) for tourism, or (d) you are building SkyTeam status and Alfursan or Flying Blue is your central currency.
Skip Saudia when: (a) you want alcohol service on a long-haul flight, (b) you want a top-tier business class product (Qsuite or Emirates First on A380 are categorical upgrades), or (c) you are heading to East Asia or North America where alternative hubs are more efficient.
