Forex cards and currency exchange — best options for Indians in 2026
Using your regular Indian debit card abroad costs 3-3.5% in forex markup on every swipe, plus ₹100-300 cross-currency fees per transaction, plus ₹200-500 per ATM withdrawal. The 2026 alternatives — zero-markup credit cards, prepaid forex cards, and digital fintech accounts — save ₹3,000-₹5,000 per ₹1 lakh of foreign spend. FlightGPT helps you compare BookMyForex, Niyo Global, Scapia, IDFC FIRST Wealth, HDFC Multicurrency, Wise, and other forex products.

TCS on forex — the ₹10 lakh threshold
Loading a forex card or making a wire transfer abroad counts toward the LRS ₹10 lakh annual threshold; above this, 20% TCS applies (reduced rates for education and medical). Credit card foreign spends currently do NOT count toward LRS. Read our TCS on forex 2026 guide for planning around the threshold.
