The best flight comparison sites in India, compared

Quick answer: For the widest view of a route, Google Flights and Skyscanner compare the most airlines and agents. ixigo and MakeMyTrip sell the ticket themselves, which helps with changes. FlightGPT lets you search in plain English, compares airline and OTA fares with series fares from travel agents, and shows the cheapest offer per flight. Check two before booking.

First: metasearch or travel agency?

The sites people call "comparison sites" are two different kinds of business, and the difference matters when something goes wrong.

  • A metasearch (Google Flights, Skyscanner, Kayak, Wego, FlightGPT) shows fares from many sellers and sends you to one of them. You buy from the airline or agent, and they handle changes and refunds.
  • An online travel agency (MakeMyTrip, ixigo, EaseMyTrip, Cleartrip) sells the ticket itself. You deal with one company for everything, but you see only the fares it sells, and convenience fees can apply.

Where FlightGPT fits — and where it doesn't

FlightGPT is our product, so here is the honest version. It compares Google Flights listings — airlines and online travel agents — with series fares from partner travel agents such as Tatkal Flights, and shows the cheapest offer for each flight. It has no fare alerts, no date grid and no app, and it shows one price per flight rather than every seller's price. What it does differently: you search the way you'd ask a friend ("cheapest non-stop to Goa on Friday evening"), and the series fares it adds are often below the airline's own price on the same flight. If a search shows a Google Flights listing as the cheapest, the tap simply takes you to Google Flights. See how FlightGPT works.

How to use two sites to get the lowest fare

  1. Search the route and date on one metasearch — Google Flights or FlightGPT — to see the spread of airlines and times.
  2. Search two or three nearby dates. A day either side often changes the fare more than any site choice does.
  3. Before paying, open the same flight on a second site. If an agent is cheaper than the airline, check its convenience fee, cancellation terms and whether baggage is included.
  4. Book with the seller whose total — fare, fees and bags — is lowest, and keep the PNR from the airline confirmation.

How we compared

We looked at each site's India version on 05 Oct, 2026 and recorded what it is (metasearch or agency), whether it sells the ticket itself, where its fares come from and which planning tools it offers. We did not rank by a single test fare: fares differ by route, date and minute, and one search proves little. Disclosure: FlightGPT publishes this page and is listed in it.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best website for cheap flight tickets in India?

No single site is cheapest every time. As of October 2026, Google Flights and Skyscanner show the most sellers per route; check one of them plus a second site, and compare the total including fees and baggage before you pay.

Is it cheaper to book on the airline's website or a travel agency?

Often the airline is the same price or cheaper, with simpler changes. Agencies win when they sell series fares or run bank offers — check both on the same flight and date.

Does Google Flights sell tickets?

No. Google Flights shows fares and sends you to the airline or a travel agent to book; you pay them, not Google.

What is a metasearch site?

A metasearch compares fares from many sellers and sends you to one to book. Google Flights, Skyscanner, Kayak, Wego and FlightGPT are metasearch sites; MakeMyTrip and ixigo sell tickets themselves.

Is FlightGPT a travel agency?

No. Since September 2026 FlightGPT has been a metasearch: it compares Google Flights listings and partner travel agents and opens the provider you choose. It adds ₹0 to the fare.

Are flight comparison sites free to use?

Yes. Google Flights, Skyscanner, Kayak, Wego and FlightGPT are free to search; they earn from airlines and agents. Agencies may add a convenience fee at checkout, so compare the final total.

How many sites should I check before booking a flight?

Two is usually enough: one metasearch for the spread of fares, then a second site on the same flight to confirm the total. Checking 2–3 nearby dates saves more than checking a fifth site.
