Bali Hindu Temple Pilgrimage — Niche day-by-day itinerary (6N/7D)

Day 1: Arrival in Bali, transfer to Ubud

Land at Denpasar, complete formalities and transfer to Ubud, the island's cultural heart. Check in and settle. Take a gentle first evening exploring Ubud's craft market and lanes, and enjoy a vegetarian Indian dinner. Rest before the temple touring begins the next day.

Day 2: Tirta Empul and Tegalalang

Visit Tirta Empul, the holy spring temple where devotees perform the melukat water-purification ritual in the sacred pools. Continue to the scenic Tegalalang rice terraces and, time permitting, a local temple. Return to Ubud for a quiet evening amid the surrounding greenery.

Day 3: Besakih Mother Temple

Travel to Besakih, Bali's largest and holiest temple complex, perched on the slopes of Mount Agung, with its many tiered shrines against a mountain backdrop. Observe the dress code (sarongs required). Visit Goa Lawah, the bat-cave sea temple, en route, and check in to the Besakih region for the night.

Day 4: Ulun Danu Beratan, transfer to coast

Drive to the highlands to visit the iconic Ulun Danu Beratan, the lake temple that appears to float on the waters of Lake Bratan amid cool mountain air. Enjoy the serene setting, then transfer down to your beach base at Sanur or Nusa Dua and check in for the next three nights.

Day 5: Tanah Lot and Pura Lempuyang

A temple-rich day. Visit Pura Lempuyang for the celebrated Gates of Heaven framing Mount Agung (note this involves steps and can have queues), and the dramatic sea temple of Tanah Lot, set on a rock offshore and especially striking towards sunset. Return to the coast for the evening.

Day 6: Uluwatu clifftop temple

Visit Uluwatu, the temple perched on a high sea cliff with sweeping ocean views, mindful of the resident monkeys. In the evening you may watch the dramatic Kecak fire dance performed at the clifftop (optional). Enjoy a final vegetarian Indian dinner and a restful evening by the sea.

Day 7: Departure

Enjoy a final breakfast and any last shopping for Balinese crafts before checking out. Transfer to Denpasar airport for your return flight home, completing the Bali Hindu temple pilgrimage.
