IndiGo date change 2026: online steps, fee ranges by fare class, and the same-day trick

Changing an IndiGo flight date is manageable if you know the rules: a 24-hour Look-in grace period where the change is free, an online window that closes 4 hours before departure, and fees that range from around ₹2,000 to ₹3,500 per passenger depending on your fare class. The fare difference on top is often the bigger cost. This is everything you need to know before you click 'Modify Booking'.
TL;DR — the short answer
You can change an IndiGo flight date online up to 4 hours before departure. The standard fee is roughly ₹2,000–₹3,500 per passenger per segment, depending on your fare class — on top of which you pay the fare difference if the new flight costs more. If you change within 24 hours of booking (the 'Look-in period'), the change fee is waived — you only pay the fare difference, if any. On IndiGo's Flexi fares, date changes are cheaper; on the cheapest Saver fares, expect fees at the higher end of that range. Verify the exact current fees on goindigo.in before modifying — these figures move.
What is IndiGo's 24-hour Look-in period?
IndiGo offers what it calls a 'Look-in' period: if you book a ticket and then decide within 24 hours that you want to change the date, IndiGo waives the change fee entirely. You still pay any fare difference (if the new date costs more than what you originally paid), but the airline's modification charge itself disappears.
Two conditions must be met: (1) you must initiate the change within 24 hours of the original booking, and (2) the departure must be at least 7 days away at the time of booking. Both conditions must hold simultaneously. If you booked with a departure 3 days out, the 7-day rule disqualifies you from Look-in, even if you try to change within the same hour.
I've used this myself a few times when plans changed the morning after booking. It's genuinely useful — but you have to catch the error fast. Set a calendar reminder for 23 hours after any IndiGo booking if there's any chance you'll want to adjust.
How to change an IndiGo flight date online — step by step
The online change process is the cheapest route — airport customer service desks tend to charge extra service fees.
- Go to goindigo.in and click 'Manage Booking' in the top navigation.
- Enter your PNR (6-character booking reference on your confirmation email) and your last name. Click Retrieve.
- Select 'Change Flight'. The system will show you available flights on the route for dates you choose.
- Pick the new date and flight. Before confirming, IndiGo shows you the total charge — change fee plus any fare difference. Screenshot this screen.
- Pay via net banking, UPI, or card. You'll receive a revised itinerary email immediately.
If you booked through an OTA (MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip, Yatra, Ixigo), the process may differ. Some OTAs let you modify directly on their app; others tell you to call IndiGo directly. OTAs sometimes add their own service fee. The path of least resistance for future bookings: book directly on IndiGo's website or app so modifications are fully self-service.
The 4-hour cutoff is hard. If departure is less than 4 hours away, online changes are disabled. You'd need to go to the airport counter — and at that point the no-show rules may be more relevant than the change rules. More on that in our article on IndiGo no-show penalties.
What does an IndiGo date change actually cost — by fare class?
IndiGo sells three main fare families on most domestic routes (the names and exact divisions can vary, so always check your fare conditions):
- Saver (cheapest bucket): Highest change fee — typically in the range of ₹3,000–₹3,500 per passenger per segment, plus fare difference. On short routes under 500 km, the change fee can sometimes approach or exceed the base fare of a new ticket. Worth doing the maths before you modify versus cancel-and-rebook.
- Regular / Value: Change fee usually falls in the ₹2,000–₹2,500 range per segment. Still real money, but more defensible.
- Flexi / Super Flexi: Lowest change fees — often in the ₹500–₹1,500 range, sometimes zero on the premium Flexi tier (just pay fare difference). If you're booking a trip where plans are genuinely uncertain, the Flexi premium at checkout often pays for itself on the first change.
The fare difference is what catches people off guard. If you bought a ₹3,200 fare on a Monday and you want to move to a Saturday — where the same seat now costs ₹6,500 — you're paying ₹3,300 in fare difference plus the change fee on top. The total bill can easily be higher than just buying a new ticket on the new date. Always compare both options before clicking confirm.
The same-day change calculation: sometimes cheaper than cancelling
Here's a counterintuitive thing IndiGo's pricing sometimes throws up: changing to a same-day later flight can cost less than cancelling and getting a refund toward a new booking.
Why? IndiGo's cancellation on Saver fares retains a penalty that often leaves you with very little back — sometimes ₹500–₹1,000 on a cheap domestic fare after the cancellation charge. If you change to a same-day flight instead, you pay the change fee but the fare difference on same-day flights is often zero or small (IndiGo doesn't always price the same flight differently within the same day). So you end up spending less than the cancellation route.
This won't always hold — it depends entirely on current pricing on the new flight. But it's worth checking the 'Change Flight' path before you hit 'Cancel'. Roughly speaking: if the net refund from cancellation is less than the change fee, you're better off changing.
Search the alternative fares on FlightGPT to see current prices on the route before you go into IndiGo's Manage Booking flow — that way you already know what you're working with before the clock pressure of the 4-hour window.
What about changes on international IndiGo flights?
IndiGo operates international routes to Gulf cities (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Doha, Kuwait), Southeast Asia (Bangkok, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore), and some other destinations. Date change fees on international routes are generally higher — often in the ₹3,500–₹5,000 range per segment, sometimes more on longer routes.
For international bookings, fare differences can be substantial — international IndiGo fares fluctuate more than domestic. A date change that moves you from a low-demand day to a peak travel day (Thursday–Friday or around an Indian holiday) can generate a large fare difference on top of the change fee.
Also note: if you're connecting through a hub (say, Hyderabad to Bangkok via IndiGo), a date change on one segment may require both segments to be repriced. Read the fare conditions on your booking confirmation carefully — it will state whether change fees apply per segment or per journey.
Bottom line: when to change, when to cancel, when to buy fresh
Quick decision tree:
- Within 24 hours of booking (departure 7+ days away)? Use the Look-in period. Change fee waived, just pay fare difference if any.
- Outside Look-in, departure more than 4 hours away? Compare: (change fee + fare difference) vs (cancellation refund + new ticket price). Whichever total is lower, do that.
- Departure within 4 hours? Online changes are closed. Head to the airport counter if a same-day change is still possible. Otherwise, review the no-show rules.
- On a Flexi fare? Change first, compare costs second — Flexi fees are low enough that changing is almost always better than cancelling.

Frequently asked questions
How much does IndiGo charge to change the flight date?
As of 2026, IndiGo's date change fee ranges from roughly ₹2,000 to ₹3,500 per passenger per segment for most domestic fares, plus any fare difference. Flexi fares attract lower fees, sometimes ₹500–₹1,500. Exact fees are shown before you confirm the change in the Manage Booking flow on goindigo.in.
Can I change my IndiGo flight for free?
Yes — if you change within 24 hours of booking and the original departure is at least 7 days away, IndiGo's Look-in period waives the change fee. You still pay any fare difference if the new flight costs more. Outside that window, the change fee applies.
How late can I change my IndiGo flight online?
The online change window closes 4 hours before departure. After that, you'd need to visit the airport IndiGo counter, which may carry additional service charges. For changes with less than 4 hours to go, weigh whether a same-day change at the counter is practical.
I booked through MakeMyTrip — can I change the date on IndiGo's website?
Possibly, but it depends on how the OTA issued the ticket. Some IndiGo-issued PNRs can be modified directly on goindigo.in even if booked via an OTA. If the Manage Booking flow shows 'Contact your travel agent', you'll need to go through MakeMyTrip — who may add their own service fee. Calling IndiGo directly with the PNR is another option.
Is it cheaper to cancel and rebook, or to change the date?
It depends on the specific fares involved. On cheap Saver tickets, the change fee plus fare difference can sometimes exceed the net refund from cancellation plus the cost of a new ticket. Always compare both paths. Use FlightGPT or goindigo.in to check the current price on your target date before deciding.
Do IndiGo date change fees apply per passenger or per booking?
Per passenger, per segment. If you're changing two passengers on a return journey (two segments each), you're looking at four change fees total, which adds up quickly. Flexi fares become especially valuable for multi-passenger, multi-segment bookings where there's any chance of a change.
