Kashmir Great Lakes Trek (Adventure) day-by-day itinerary (7N/8D)

Day 1: Arrive Sonamarg

Reach Sonamarg, the trek's base, and settle in for the night. Use the afternoon to rest, check gear with the trek leader and acclimatise to the altitude before the walking begins.

Day 2: Sonamarg to Nichnai

Begin trekking from the Shitkadi trailhead, climbing through meadows and pine and maple forest to the Nichnai camp. The first day eases you into the rhythm of walking at altitude. Camp for the night.

Day 3: Nichnai to Vishansar

Cross the Nichnai Pass and descend to camp near the stunning Vishansar Lake, with the twin Krishansar Lake nearby. The high meadows and reflecting waters are a highlight of the trek. Camp by the lakes.

Day 4: Vishansar to Gadsar

Climb to the Gadsar Pass at around 4,200m, the trek's highest point, with panoramic views of the lakes below, then descend past alpine flowers to the Gadsar Lake camp. A long, rewarding day.

Day 5: Gadsar to Satsar

Trek through rolling meadows and grazing pastures to the Satsar group of twin lakes, set among rocky terrain. Camp near the lakes, surrounded by Himalayan peaks.

Day 6: Satsar to Gangabal

Cross a ridge with views and descend to the twin Gangabal and Nundkol lakes beneath the towering Harmukh peak, among the most beautiful camps of the trek. Camp by the water.

Day 7: Gangabal to Naranag

Descend through forest to the village of Naranag, completing the trek, then transfer back towards Srinagar or Sonamarg. Celebrate the journey on a final night under cover.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer to Srinagar airport for your onward flight, weary but rewarded after the lakes trek.
