Kenya Masai Mara Big-Five Safari day-by-day itinerary (6N/7D)

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

Fly into Nairobi, clear immigration and transfer to your hotel. Settle in after the journey and take an easy evening to rest. Your driver-guide briefs you on the safari ahead. Prepare neutral-coloured clothing, sun protection and binoculars for the game drives to come.

Day 2: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru

Drive from Nairobi into the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park, with a viewpoint stop over the valley en route. Enjoy a game drive around the lake, famous for its flamingos and as a rhino sanctuary, also spotting buffalo, giraffe and waterbuck. Overnight near the park.

Day 3: Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara

Drive on to the Masai Mara, Kenya's premier reserve, watching the landscape open into vast savannah. Check in to your tented camp and, after lunch, head out on your first afternoon game drive in search of lions, elephants and the plains game that throng the Mara. Overnight at camp.

Day 4: Full day in the Masai Mara

A full day of game drives across the Mara's grasslands, with the best chances of the Big Five and, in season (July-October), the wildebeest migration and river crossings. Your guide tracks predators and herds across the reserve. Return to camp for meals, with sightings never guaranteed but often plentiful.

Day 5: Masai Mara and village visit

More game driving in the Mara, exploring different areas of the reserve for big cats, elephants and birdlife. Visit a traditional Masai village to learn about the community's customs, dress and way of life (a small fee may apply). Enjoy a final evening at the camp amid the sounds of the bush.

Day 6: Masai Mara to Nairobi

Enjoy a final morning game drive or a relaxed breakfast, then drive back from the Mara to Nairobi (a long journey on rough roads). Check in to your hotel and rest, with time for any last souvenir shopping. Reflect on the safari over a final dinner in the city.

Day 7: Departure

After breakfast, transfer to Nairobi airport for your return flight home, completing the Masai Mara safari. Allow time for transfers and formalities after the wildlife adventure.
