Egypt Nile Cruise — Cairo, Luxor, Aswan day-by-day itinerary (8N/9D)

Day 1: Arrival in Cairo

Land in Cairo, clear immigration and transfer to your hotel. Settle in after the flight and take an easy first evening. Rest up before a full day at the pyramids tomorrow, the centrepiece of the Cairo leg of the journey.

Day 2: Giza Pyramids and Sphinx

A landmark day at the Giza plateau — stand before the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx, with an optional inside-pyramid visit. Continue to Sakkara's Step Pyramid and ancient Memphis. Carry water and sun protection for the open desert sites, and return to Cairo for the evening.

Day 3: Egyptian Museum and bazaar

Explore the Egyptian Museum's vast collection, including Tutankhamun's treasures (note some artefacts may be at the Grand Egyptian Museum). Wander the labyrinthine Khan El Khalili bazaar for spices, lamps and souvenirs. Enjoy a relaxed evening before flying south tomorrow.

Day 4: Fly to Luxor, embark the cruise

Take an internal flight to Luxor and board your Nile cruiser. Visit the immense Karnak temple complex and Luxor Temple on the east bank, walking the avenues of columns and sphinxes. Settle into the ship and enjoy dinner onboard as you begin the river journey.

Day 5: Luxor west bank

Cross to Luxor's west bank for the Valley of the Kings, exploring the painted royal tombs cut into the rock, then the dramatic terraced temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. Start early to beat the heat. Sail on towards Edfu, enjoying the riverside scenery from deck.

Day 6: Edfu and Kom Ombo

Visit the remarkably preserved Temple of Horus at Edfu, reached by horse-carriage, then sail to the unusual double Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to Sobek and Horus, set right on the riverbank. Enjoy the gentle sailing between stops and an evening onboard the cruiser.

Day 7: Aswan

Reach Aswan and visit the Aswan High Dam and the beautiful island Temple of Philae, dedicated to Isis. There is time for a felucca sail around the islands at sunset (often included or optional). A relaxed, scenic day before disembarking and flying back to Cairo.

Day 8: Fly to Cairo

Disembark and take an internal flight back to Cairo. Use any free time for last sightseeing or shopping — perhaps the Citadel and Mosque of Muhammad Ali, or a return to the bazaar. Check in to your Cairo hotel and enjoy a final evening in the capital.

Day 9: Departure

Final breakfast and check-out, then transfer to Cairo airport for your return flight home, ending the pyramids-and-Nile cultural journey.
