Iceland Scandinavia Northern Lights day-by-day itinerary (13N/14D)

Day 1: Arrival in Copenhagen

Arrive in the Danish capital and transfer to your hotel. If time allows, take an orientation walk past the colourful Nyhavn harbour and the city's pedestrian streets. Rest up for the journey ahead.

Day 2: Copenhagen city tour

See Copenhagen's highlights: the Little Mermaid statue, Amalienborg Palace, the Gefion Fountain and the canals of Nyhavn. Enjoy free time in the city centre before an Indian dinner.

Day 3: Fly to Helsinki

Take an internal flight to Helsinki, Finland's seaside capital. On arrival, tour the Senate Square, the Rock Church (Temppeliaukio) carved into stone and the waterfront market. Overnight in Helsinki.

Day 4: Helsinki to Saariselka

Explore a little more of Helsinki, then fly north into Finnish Lapland and transfer to Saariselka deep inside the Arctic Circle. Settle into your hotel and watch for your first aurora display if skies are clear.

Day 5: Husky and reindeer farms

A full Arctic day: visit a husky farm for a sled experience and a reindeer farm to learn about Sami herding traditions. Try snow activities such as a snowmobile safari. Evening aurora chase weather permitting.

Day 6: Saariselka Arctic activities

Continue with Lapland adventures and free time in the snow. This second northern night gives you another strong chance of catching the Northern Lights over the wilderness before heading to Iceland.

Day 7: Fly to Reykjavik

Transfer south and fly via Helsinki to Reykjavik, Iceland's capital. Check in and, energy allowing, stroll the centre past Hallgrimskirkja and the Sun Voyager. Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 8: Golden Circle tour

A classic Golden Circle day: Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area with erupting Strokkur and the powerful Gullfoss waterfall. Return to Reykjavik with an evening aurora attempt if clear.

Day 9: Reykjavik and Blue Lagoon area

Enjoy a Reykjavik city tour and free time, with the option to soak in a geothermal lagoon. A relaxed day in the capital before heading along the South Coast, with another chance at the Northern Lights overnight.

Day 10: South Coast to Vik

Drive the dramatic South Coast, stopping at Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls and the black-sand beach of Reynisfjara. Continue to the Vik area for the night beneath towering sea cliffs.

Day 11: Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon

Head east to the spectacular Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon where icebergs drift toward the sea, and the nearby Diamond Beach where ice glints on black sand. Return for a second night near Vik with an aurora watch if skies allow.

Day 12: North to Akureyri

Make the long scenic transfer or flight to Akureyri in northern Iceland. Settle in by the fjord and, time permitting, see the Godafoss waterfall. Final Northern Lights chance overnight in the north.

Day 13: Akureyri at leisure

Enjoy your last full day in the north with an optional whale-watching cruise or relaxed exploration of Akureyri. Prepare for the journey home with one more evening under Arctic skies.
