Sri Lanka Wildlife — Yala & Udawalawe with Beach tour package — 6N/7D itinerary, price and inclusions

An easy first international safari for Indian travellers, threading Sri Lanka's highlights with two jeep safaris in Yala National Park, which has one of the world's highest leopard densities. The route runs from Colombo through Kandy — for the sacred Temple of the Tooth and the Pinnawala elephant orphanage — up to the tea country of Nuwara Eliya, then down to Yala for the safaris and on to Bentota's beach and Madu River. All transfers are by AC vehicle, with six nights in 4-star hotels. Honest note: leopard sightings in Yala, though more likely here than almost anywhere, are never guaranteed, and the park is busy and closed for a period (often September) each year; the hill-country drives are scenic but winding. A well-balanced mix of wildlife, culture, tea and beach. starting at INR 50,000 per person. Covers Colombo 1N, Kandy 1N, Nuwara Eliya 1N, Yala 2N, Bentota 1N.

Sri Lanka Wildlife — Yala & Udawalawe with Beach day-by-day itinerary (6N/7D)

Day 1: Arrival in Colombo

Fly into Colombo, clear immigration and transfer to your hotel. Settle in after the journey and take an easy first evening, perhaps a drive along Galle Face Green by the sea. Rest up before beginning the island circuit through hills, parks and coast over the coming days.

Day 2: Colombo to Kandy via Pinnawala

Drive towards Kandy, stopping at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage to watch the herd, including calves, being fed and bathing in the river. Continue to Kandy and visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, with its evening rituals. Check in and enjoy the lakeside hill town for the night.

Day 3: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

Drive up into the central highlands to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's tea capital, through emerald tea plantations. Visit a tea factory to see the process and enjoy a tasting, and stroll by Gregory Lake in the cool climate. Check in to this charming hill town with its colonial echoes for the night.

Day 4: Nuwara Eliya to Yala, evening safari

Descend from the hills to Yala and check in near the park. In the late afternoon, take your first jeep safari into Yala, famed for its leopards as well as elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles and abundant birdlife. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay near the reserve.

Day 5: Yala safari, transfer to Bentota

Take an early-morning jeep safari into Yala, the prime time for spotting leopards and other wildlife in the scrub and lagoons. After breakfast, drive to the west-coast resort town of Bentota. Check in and relax on the beach in the afternoon, enjoying the change from jungle to coast.

Day 6: Bentota beach and Madu River

A relaxed day in Bentota. Take a boat safari on the Madu River through mangrove channels and past small islands and temples, looking for birds and monitor lizards. Spend the rest of the day on the beach or by the pool, enjoying optional watersports before a final coastal evening.

Day 7: Departure

After breakfast, transfer from Bentota to Colombo airport for your return flight home, completing the Sri Lanka wildlife and beach circuit. Allow time for the coastal drive and airport formalities.
