Day 1: Arrive Phuentsholing

Arrive at the border town of Phuentsholing and complete permit formalities. Check in, then visit the Zangto Pelri Lhakhang temple and the border market in the evening before resting ahead of the long ascent into the mountains.

Day 2: Drive to Thimphu

A scenic six-hour climb from the plains into the Himalaya through forest and switchbacks, with tea and photo stops along the way. Arrive in the capital, check in, and take a gentle evening walk to start acclimatising.

Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula

Tour Thimphu's highlights, the Memorial Chorten and Buddha Dordenma, then cross the 3,100-metre Dochula Pass with its 108 chortens (Himalayan views weather permitting) and descend to Punakha. Visit the riverside Punakha Dzong and walk the suspension bridge over the Po Chhu.

Day 4: Punakha to Phobjikha valley

Drive into the glacial Phobjikha valley, visiting Gangtey Monastery and the Black-necked Crane Centre and walking part of the Gangtey Nature Trail. The broad wetland basin is the winter home of the rare black-necked crane, most visible from late autumn.

Day 5: Phobjikha to Bumthang

Day 6: Bumthang temples to Paro

Day 7: Tiger's Nest hike

Day 8: Depart from Paro
